On the eve of the celebration of our nation’s birth, this looming threat of terrorism is no doubt on our minds. And when we think about praying for terrorist and against terrorism, we find ourselves in a quandary on this side of the cross. Do Christians pray for God to smash those who cause such evil, or do we forgive them and pray for their salvation? While we are sometimes torn, God is able to navigate those muddy waters. Though the evil heart is unsearchable with human capacities, and though the source of all the evil plots of terrorist are too deep for us to grasp, God is more than capable. He who “searches all hearts and understands every plan and thought” (1 Chron. 28:9) weighs their motives and turns the tables on them.
